Bees print from Sir William Jardine's, The Naturalist's Library, originally drawn by James Hope Stewart (1789-1856) - originally a copper engraving.

Framed in a handmade frame of brown clay/gesso with crosshatch scoring, with natural 8-ply mat.

Stewart, who was a farmer from Gillenbie, Dumfriesshirre, emerged from obscurity in 1833 to produce over 500 of the 1,351 illustrations for Jardine's Naturalists Libary before quietly returning to farming in 1843.

Print includes the checkered beetle, honeycomb moth, gallery of larva, bees supporting a piece of comb.
