Bees print from Sir William Jardine's, The Naturalist's Library, originally drawn by James Hope Stewart (1789-1856) - originally a copper engraving

Framed in a handmade frame of brown clay/gesso with crosshatch scoring, with natural 8-ply mat

Stewart, who was a farmer from Gillenbie, Dumfriesshirre, emerged from obscurity in 1833 to produce over 500 of the 1,351 illustrations for Jardine's Naturalists Libary before quietly returning to farming in 1843.
